Arm Liposuction

Aastha Dogra
Often, people consider an arm liposuction to get rid of their flabby arms.
If you are also in a similar situation, then this story gives you all the information you need about this procedure, its recovery time, and the costs involved.
Flabby upper arms are very common in women and men of all ages. The main reason for this is deposits of fat on this portion of our body, as a result of weight gain and obesity. Even if there is no weight gain, the skin on that area starts to sag with age. This is a part and parcel of the natural aging process.
Though exercises and weight training help to get rid of the fat, toning of the skin might not always be possible through these methods. Therefore, arm liposuction is often opted by people in such a scenario.

Procedure

  • The procedure generally takes around two hours.
  • In this procedure, a cannula is tucked in the skin. Cannula is a kind of a tube that can be easily inserted in the body, and is often used in various medical treatments for removal or delivery of fluids.
  • With this cannula, the fat under the skin is dissolved.
  • Once the fat has melted, it is removed from the body using the suction method.
  • After the removal of the fat deposits, the skin on the operated area is tightened; and later, sutures are applied to hold the tissues of the skin together.
  • The surgery is done in such a way that there is minimal injury to the skin. Even swelling and scarring, which are so often associated with surgeries, are minimized as far as possible.
  • The entire procedure is done after the patient is given local anesthesia and hence, there is no discomfort or pain involved on account of the treatment.
Another alternative is using laser therapy, which is a comparatively new technique. This technique not only melts the fat, but also tightens and tones the skin. It is opted by both men and women for toning that area.

Recovery Time

The entire recovery time is about four to five weeks. After the surgery is complete, the patient feels a kind of heaviness or soreness around their arms. The doctors recommend complete rest for up to five days after the surgery. The doctors also instruct the patients to wear a compression sleeve around the operated area.
This helps in holding the area together. It also helps in holding the incision in the right place.
Ideally, it should be worn for about four weeks after the surgery. The recovery time depends on how sincerely one follows the above precautions. Although there will be swelling and slight bruising on the area, it will go away on its own. The scars (if any) will also diminish with time and will become close to being invisible in a few months.

Cost

Unlike obesity surgery, liposuction is not meant to reduce huge amounts of fat from the body. It is ideally meant for people who are up to fifteen pounds overweight. On the other hand, arm liposuction can be opted by people who are not overweight at all, and just want to tone up the skin on their upper arms.
The cost varies from place to place and from hospital to hospital. At a place where there is a high demand of plastic surgery, the costs will also be higher; and at a place where demand is lower, costs will be lower too.
The cost will be higher in those hospitals, which use the latest equipment and methods. The expertise of the professional who is hired to conduct the procedure also determines the cost. A well-known expert in this field is bound to charge more than others.
Thus, it is a convenient way of losing fats in the arm as well as toning them. Remember that any cosmetic surgery should be opted only as the last option. If you can resort to various exercises for toning your arms, it is much better and safer.
