Baggy Eyes Treatment

Puffy, tired eyes that often occur due to edema can be treated by simple home remedies such as drinking adequate water, placing cucumber slices, and tea bags.
Baggy eyes, also known as puffy eyes simply mars the beauty of the eyes, isn't it? The swelling under the eyelids is annoying, as the eyes look tired and puffy. It is observed that with increase in age, the muscles around the eyes lose their elasticity, causing them to sag and droop.
However, puffiness around the eyes are nowadays observed even in youngsters, causes and treatment of which are discussed here.

Boost Water Intake

As baggy eyes mainly occurs due to edema (resulting from inadequate water intake), it is necessary to stay dehydrated. So, drinking plenty of water will reduce edema, thereby decreasing the fluids accumulated in different tissues of the body.

Diet

Having foods high in potassium can also work wonders to decrease water retention. So, to reduce the quantity of water accumulated under the eyes, one should include potassium-rich foods like tomatoes, strawberries, bananas, watermelon, and papaya.

Tea Bags

Did you know that placing chilled green tea bags over closed eyes, is an effective treatment for under-eye puffiness? The anti-inflammatory properties of green tea, work to decrease the swelling of the affected eye.

Restrict Salt and Caffeine Intake

Coffee acts as a diuretic, hence its excess consumption can cause high amount of fluid loss, leading to edema. As salt also causes to retain fluid, too much of salt in the diet can also lead to water retention. So, to avoid eye edema that gives an appearance of swelling around the eyes, it is necessary to minimize the intake of salt and caffeinated beverages.

Cucumber

Another way to alleviate under-eye bags, is to use cucumber slice. The cold nature of cucumber is very effective to reduce the swelling under the eyes. Simply, place cucumber slice over or under the eyelids for 15-20 minutes to soothe puffy tired eyes.

Facial Massage

A gentle massage with diluted almond or jojoba oil can encourage normal circulation of fluids, thus helping to eliminate pooling of fluids under the eyes.

Botox

Regarded as a cure for this eye problem, it involves injecting botox in the area just under the skin showing puffiness. Although botox therapy is effective, the results do not last for more than a year.

Surgery

In case, baggy eyes are the result of accumulation of excess fat under the eyes, then a surgical procedure known as blepharoplasty is used to reduce the fat.
This technique has been quite effective to give a better appearance to the eyes. Incisions in the lower eyelids are made to remove fat under the eyes. Cosmetic surgery is another expensive option to get a long-lasting relief from puffy eyes.
Along with aforementioned remedies, managing stress, taking adequate sleep for 7-8 hours, ditching unhealthy habits like alcoholism and smoking, and following a healthy diet can go a long way in keeping puffy eyes at bay.
