Blotched red skin looks problematic. It looks disturbing, and sometimes, unhealthy. The blotches often resemble pimples or skin bumps in the initial stages. After about 2 or 3 days, the irritation will turn up, and the red spots or blotches on skin will be visible.
These red spots have a tendency to multiply, overlap, and spread throughout the body. Most of the people who have experienced it, have noticed that the blotches are intense in the morning as they wake up, and get milder during the course of the day. These blotches are fairly common through all people at all ages.
However, if this problem turns chronic (which it mostly does), treating it may become exceedingly difficult. Like a normal skin problem, itching, and irritation can also accompany the red blotched skin.

What Causes Blotched Red Skin?

Red skin blotches can be caused by many factors such as follows:

Acne

Acne causes red bumps on the face, chest, and back due to hormonal changes in the body. In most cases, these bumps also contain puss.

Treatment

Acne treatment is fairly simple. The best way to get rid of them would be to wash the face (and other affected areas) with a mild medicated antiseptic soap twice a day. There are many medications that are available over-the-counter for acne treatment; however, it is always better to consult a dermatologist before resorting to any medication.

Dermatitis

Certain cosmetics tend to have a negative impact on the skin. They could cause red blotchy skin due to irritant contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis is a skin infection of sorts, that is caused when a certain chemical that does not suit your skin comes in contact with the skin for long periods of time.

Treatment

The only treatment for this skin condition is to primarily avoid the cosmetics that are causing the skin problem. If you are unsure of the cosmetics that are problematic, then avoid using the ones that you regularly use.
Even with the new set of cosmetics, make it a point to avoid having it on for a very long time. More so, use a lotion or face cream or a hydrocortisone cream on the affected areas.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin disease, which is a common cause of red blotchy skin. Moreover, it is accompanied by other symptoms, like pimples on nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. Coupling with the pimples, is itchiness and swelling of the eyelids. The blotched redness during rosacea may be fluctuating due to the expansion and contraction of the blood vessels.
It, mostly, gets worse with exposure to sunlight, fluctuating temperatures, hardcore workouts, humid weather, stress and tension, extremely spicy food, and consumption of alcohol.

Treatment

Rosacea cannot be treated with over-the-counter medications. Instead, it requires prescription drugs. Ordinarily, metrogel and tetracycline are preferred by dermatologists. However, consult a dermatologist before you take any medication.

Allergic Reaction

Allergic reactions tend to cause the blood vessels to expand or contract suddenly. This causes a bout of blotchy rashes on the skin. It is normally also accompanied by irregular sores and swelling.

Treatment

Professional care of allergy relief should be sought. Consult a doctor and get the reaction treated.

Hives

Hives causes blotches along with swelling and red bumps on the skin. Burning and itching sensation is also experienced. The plaques (the red bumps caused during hives) affect the face, tongue, lips, or ears.

Treatment

Cool compresses can help relieve the hives. Antihistamines are often also suggested. In case the hives are visible 2 or 3 days after the treatment begins, contact a doctor and get his opinion.
Other diseases like Fifth disease also causes blotched red skin. This is a viral disease, that spreads throughout the body. Medical help should be taken at the earliest in this case.
Thus, these were the causes and treatment of the red skin with blotches that you or someone you know must be experiencing. Keep this information handy since you never know when you may need it.
