Boils appeared on the groin should be treated immediately to prevent the infection from spreading to other body parts as well as to other people. Learn about the causes, symptoms, treatment, and certain effective home remedies for this skin condition, from this story.
A boil is a painful bump, which causes redness and pain, in and around the affected area. The main reason behind boils found anywhere on the body, is the "Staphylococcus Aureus" bacteria, found on the surface of the skin.
Although boils can occur in any person, certain people, who have a weak immune system, diabetes, or skin disorders are more prone to getting them. Boils or the painful sores on certain body parts such as the groin, can cause intense pain to an individual, making it difficult for him to even walk.

Causes

Just like any other part of the body, sores on the groin can occur on account of various reasons such as ingrown hair, blocked sweat glands that have become infected, breakage or cut in the skin, which has got infected with bacteria leading to the build up of abscess in it, and lastly, due to any foreign material that has gotten deposited in the skin.

Symptoms

  • The affected area becomes red and very soft, and tender to touch.
  • Pus gets filled in the boils making them appear yellow-whitish in color, from the center.
  • Pain and itching is felt in the affected area.
  • People who get multiple boils, may exhibit symptoms such as fever and swollen nymph nodes.

Treatment

As soon as the boils appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. If they are left untreated, they can infect the surrounding skin, leading to many more of such painful bumps. If the pus from these sores enters the blood stream, the infection can even spread to other body parts. To avoid this, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible.
The doctor will, first of all, conduct certain medical tests to ascertain the type of bacteria that has caused this skin condition. Once the type of bacteria is detected, the doctor prescribes certain antibiotics to treat the infection.
Sometimes, the infection can be passed on to other people, who come in contact with the affected person. To avoid that, in some cases, the entire family of the affected person is asked to go in for a bacterial culture.
Along with medical treatment, if the affected person follows certain home remedies, it can make the healing faster.
# 1. The boils can be cured easily, if the pus inside is emptied. To do that, combine the juice of an onion and a garlic, and apply on the boils regularly. Application of this mixture will help in making the process of draining the pus quite faster.
# 2. An effective tonic, which fastens the healing can be made by combining cod liver oil, honey, lemon juice, and orange juice in equal measures. This tonic should be taken thrice a day for desired results.
# 3. Neem is an excellent cure for boils. Take a few fresh neem leaves, grind them into a paste and then apply on the affected area daily, until it heals completely.
# 4. To prevent the boils from becoming septic, and to aid in their faster ripening, make a mixture of milk cream and vinegar, add a pinch of turmeric to it, and apply on the boils every day.
# 5. For healing the boils that are blood-filled, drink a tonic prepared by mixing bitter gourd juice and fresh lemon juice every day, on an empty stomach in the morning.
# 6. Cornmeal is also one of the best home remedies to get rid of pus-filled sores appearing on the groin area. Boil half a cup water, and keep adding cornmeal to it, until the mixture becomes a thick paste. Apply this paste on the boil, and cover it with a cloth in the form of a poultice. Let the paste dry completely before washing it off. Keep repeating this process every 2-3 hours, until the boil turns into a head and drains off.
As boils can be contagious, a person suffering from them should stay away from other people, till the time the germs are completely eliminated. Lastly, in order to prevent boils on the groin from occurring in the future, it is advised to maintain proper hygiene and follow a well-balanced diet.
