Though calcium carbonate is widely used in the treatment of calcium deficiency symptoms, there are certain risk factors for administering its supplements. Some of the reported side effects are swelling of body parts, loss of appetite, irregular bowel movement, medicine interaction, and difficulty breathing. Calcium carbonate, chemical formula CaCO3, is naturally available in the form of rocks and minerals. Its uses in industries, therapeutic treatments, and environmental applications are worth mentioning. This chemical compound (in pure form) is widely used as a supplement for the treatment of calcium deficiency. Nevertheless, like any other dietary supplement, there are certain side effects that are noticed due to administration of a high dosage for a long duration.

One can overcome the mild side effects by reducing the dose, while some severe symptoms need medical intervention.

Calcium Overdose

Overdose occurs when the concentration exceeds 2500 mg. Under such a condition, elevated calcium levels in the bloodstream takes place, which in turn causes unusual calcium deposits in the body tissues. Overdose symptoms include nausea, dizziness, decreased appetite, and constipation.

Other Side Effects
