Pain in the center of abdomen can occur due to minor reasons like indigestion, constipation, or due to major health conditions like kidney diseases or gallstones. Here is an overview on the causes and treatment methods for the same.
Abdominal pain, although a common condition, is not something that is to be ignored. To be precise, it is the pain experienced in the middle of the abdomen, near the navel. Identifying the location and type of pain can help in quick diagnosis. The type of pain varies according to the underlying cause.

Causes

If a person experiences excruciating pain, there may be chances of him suffering from appendicitis. However, usually in case of appendicitis, the pain is predominantly experienced on the right side.
Secondly, less severe but consistent pain, accompanied with nausea can be caused due to acid reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, gastroenteritis, etc. Pain after eating is usually caused due to peptic ulcer disease, gallstones, food intolerance, lactose intolerance, food poisoning, etc.
During pregnancy, this type of pain is experienced due to acid reflux disease and indigestion. At the same time, conditions like twisted or ruptured ovarian cyst, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, etc., can also be the possible causes.

The pain caused due to kidney diseases like kidney infection and kidney stone is usually experienced in the lower part of the abdomen. These conditions are more commonly found in men than in women. Constipation and indigestion are the common causes of stomach pain in babies.

Treatment

Looking for immediate medical help and treatment should be your first priority. In minor cases, home remedies can be helpful. Constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux disease, etc., can be treated with medications. If suffering from chronic cases, the doctor will recommend diet and lifestyle changes.
Food poisoning and kidney diseases can be treated with medication. You can also go for over-the-counter painkillers to get rid of the dull aching pain caused due to minor conditions.
If dehydration is observed, one should have plenty of fluids in the form of plain water, coconut water, etc. Having coconut water or cold buttermilk also helps in treating acid reflux disease. Constipation can be treated with laxatives or by having high-fiber foods.
Home remedies should be used only in minor cases. In case other severe symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, etc., are observed, it is recommended to consult the doctor immediately.
The symptoms of the aforementioned conditions vary from one person to the other. However, if any abnormality is observed, it is wise to look for quick medical treatment. Take care!
