What Causes Chronic Dizziness

Dizziness is not only an annoying condition, but it can also make you sick, hamper your eyesight and if it is ignored for long, can even affect your nervous system. Feeling giddy all the time can make you weak and exhausted, stopping you from leading a happy life. The first step to cure this debilitating condition is to find out what actually triggers it.
Listed below are a few causes that can help shed some light on this disorder.
  • Weakness - When the body is anemic or weak or suffers from severe fatigue, there are chances of experiencing sudden episodes of fainting spells. This is because of the fact that the body does not receive proper nutrition.
  • Dehydration - Another prominent cause of experiencing a dizzy feeling is dehydration. When the body is deprived of water for a long time or suffers from heat stroke, then it can make a person feel dizzy.
  • Stress - When a person is under stress or anxiety for a long time or has panic attacks like hyperventilating, this can affect the nervous system and can cause extreme dizziness.
  • Inner Ear Infections - There is a fluid in the inner ear that balances the equilibrium of the body. If there is an infection in the ear, the vestibular system that regulates the body's center of gravity may not function properly, leading to giddiness.
Low Blood Pressure - Having low blood pressure (hypotension)can also be one of the reasons for inveterate dizziness. When the heart doesn't pump enough blood and there is a delay in the blood reaching the brain, then a person can feel dizzy. Getting up suddenly after lying down or sitting for a long period of time can cause giddy spells.
  • Vertigo - Whirling sensation, or vertigo occurs when you have been in motion, like traveling in a train, boat, or a plane for a long period of time. When the body that has been in motion for a long time comes to a stop, the brain has a hard time adjusting to this situation causing sudden dizziness at times.
Other Reasons - Apart from the above mentioned reasons, some other triggers include alcoholism, side effects of certain drugs, improper blood circulation to the brain, hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiac arrhythmia, and smoking etc.
