A constant case of clammy skin can stir concern within those who've been experiencing this sensation for some time now. While there are minor reasons as to why this happens, there are always some major factors that you need to address...
One's skin needs to be warm and dry at all times, unless it has been subjected to heat, or cold weather. The skin secretes perspiration where the sweat glands are put into a heat-filled situation of either body exertion or due to outside elements that cause the body to heat up.
There are different reasons as to why you feel clammy and moist when it come to your skin - excessive sweating being a common cause. We look into the many possible case scenarios as to why people experience clammy skin, and what to do when it comes to preventing this as much as possible.

Cold Clammy Skin in Infants

When infants experience cold and clammy hands, it could be primarily due to a case of dehydration. When the baby doesn't eat its food well, the stakes are high in him / her suffering from a loss of water in the body. Due to the body's inability to get its sufficient supply of nutrients, the organs like the skin and the kidneys, suffer drastically.
Symptoms:  Babies then have cold clammy skin and are not as active as they should be. When this happens, different consequent problems take place like not being able to produce tears while crying or not ending up with enough wet diapers.
Poor feeding habits can also lead to diarrhea, and consulting a doctor is crucial at this point. Spitting up is all right for a baby to do, but frequent vomiting is a sign that your baby needs immediate attention and medical assistance.
If the baby's vomit is greenish, then this means that bile is being expelled from the stomach, signaling a deeper set problem like infection.

Common Causes of Clammy Skin in Adults and Children

The reason why this skin disorder occurs, can range from mild to severe cases, depending on one's health or situation. If you've had random and prolonged episodes of clammy skin, that don't really crop up during the right moment like once you're out of the cold or inactive, then this could mean something more.

How to Deal With

For those people who constantly find themselves with clammy skin and with a sense of feeling hot all the time, there are ways in which you can avoid this.
  • Over indulgence in alcoholic beverages must be put to a stop.
  • Light exercise is advisable, that too indoors with an air conditioned room to keep your skin cool at all times.
  • Avoid working out on extremely hot days, although you can do so during dusk or early in the day time.
  • Skip out on taking hot showers, and opt for cool water instead to help the body maintain that temperature of not being heated up.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Ensure that you don't sit in direct sunlight but under a shade during the day.
  • If you suffer from heat exhaustion, you'll experience sensations like cramping, dizziness, blurry vision and vertigo. It is important to stay away from sunlight that is harsh, and at its peak in the afternoons.
  • Wear loose cotton clothing to help skin breathe in warm conditions, and wear a wide hat to protect your facial skin from the sun.
  • Draw the curtains shut on a sunny day, and don't invite too much sunlight into your home, or the air will get hot and stuffy.
  • Keep the air conditioner on during the day and seal off any exit points where the cool air could escape through.
  • Keep fans on while cooking and doing chores, to keep your body cool when being active.
  • Drink a lot of fluids otherwise as well, and not just water, to help maintain your everyday liquid intake to keep your body sufficiently dehydrated.
Clammy skin is something that one has to deal with, if not solve completely, but there are ways and means on how to deal with it as much as possible. If the problem persists, visit your doctor and have it checked out to see if this is normal or something that needs to be medically treated.
