Constant Nausea After Eating

Nausea, as we know it, can be regarded as a state that is usually a predecessor of vomiting. However, it is not always necessary that it would lead to vomiting. It may affect both children and adults, and at any age. Constant nausea after eating could be a manifestation of something amiss in the body.
Moreover, nausea, is also one of the most common symptoms of several kinds of medical conditions suffered by people in most parts of the world. Constant or chronic nausea after meal is an eating disorder, wherein, the affected person gets the sensation of throwing up, which may occur immediately after eating or a few hours later. And as obvious as it is, it is not at all a good feeling nor a good sign.

What Causes Nausea After Meals?

# The most common cause may be associated with the content of the food. There are people whose digestive system are not suitable to certain kinds of food. And so, in such people, these foods may cause the body to respond negatively in the form of nausea post meal.
Some people have the habit of gulping down food, instead of taking time to chew it properly. Even these people may develop this condition. Then there is this love with heavy, rich and fatty meals. Such foods may also cause people to feel like throwing up, especially when they overeat.
# If the nausea is accompanied by bloating, then peptic ulcer may be suspected to be the cause. If it is a stomach ulcer, then the affected person may also experience pain shortly after eating.
# Some experts comment that the problem could be psychiatric in nature. They believe that depression, anxiety disorder or eating disorder could lead the person nauseate shortly after eating.
# If the person feels nauseating or vomits one to eight hours after meal, then food poisoning could be included in the list of offenders.
# Some people may get nauseated after eating sweets, and this might be accompanied by headache. Such symptoms could indicate the development of hypoglycemia; a condition of abnormally low level of blood sugar.
# Stomach flu, also known as viral gastroenteritis is also known to be one of the factors that cause pain and nausea post meal. It is an infection of the intestines, which may also cause vomiting, abdominal cramps and low-grade fever.

Treatment

As the causes are identifiable, the treatment mainly focuses on getting rid of triggering factors. Here are some measures you can take to deal with this condition, apart from what the doctors recommend.
  • Stress, although cannot be blamed to cause nausea, but it sure aggravates it. So enroll yourself in some stress relieving programs such as meditation, yoga class and the like.
  • Smoke, fumes, perfumes, smell from cooking, vehicle smokes, etc., can easily cause nausea and dizziness after eating in many people. 
So avoiding being exposed to such irritants may also help in preventing the condition.
  • It is advisable to avoid eating in stuffy environment, or in a hot or humid enclosure.
  • Try to include less of spicy or greasy foods in your diet, and include more of bland or light foods if you are prone to feeling nausea every time you eat. Also, do not eat food which is too hot or too cold.
  • Food items such as whole grains, fruits, green leafy vegetables help in curbing the urge to vomit.
  • Identify and avoid foods which have made you nauseous in the past.
  • If you feel nauseous post eating, take a few sips of peppermint or chamomile tea. Herbal teas have a soothing effect on the digestive system.
  • For nausea and dizziness, have a few bites of ginger cloves after eating. It may not taste so nice, but it will curb the nauseous feeling.
  • If you keep having constant nausea post meal, then doctors recommend to throw up purposely. This would help the body to get rid of the unwanted substance, which might have been causing the nausea in the first place.
So whenever you have the unpleasant feeling of nausea after eating, consider following a few of the measures cited above. However, if they do not help, and your condition worsens, then go for immediate medial help. Take care!
