Dark circles under eyes is an indicator of the person being deficient in the essential minerals and vitamins, which are essential for maintaining good health. Surprisingly, even kids seem to be developing this problem. Here we talk about why this may happen, and some remedies for it.
There are many reasons for the development of dark circles under eyes in children as well as adults. These dark circles under the eyes are also known as bags under the eyes. They symbolize that the person might be suffering from a prolonged illness and can be very frustrating because they affect the good looks and personality of the person. A person with dark circles looks tired and mostly; this can be due to over-exertion and lack of adequate sleep.

Causes

As mentioned above, lack of sleep is one of the prime cause of dark circles. Nasal congestion, allergic rhinitis, too much rubbing of eyes and hay fever are some of the other causes. Tiredness, fatigue and tensions also lead to dark circles. There are some chemicals which cause allergies of different types ultimately leading to the appearance of dark circles.
Another prominent reason for dark circles is their hereditary nature. If the parents of the child have them, then there is a possibility of the children facing the same problem.
Fever quantities of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which is the main reason behind incomplete and improper digestion of protein substances is also responsible for dark circles.
 This happens due to the deposition of carbon on the portion below the eyes. Vitamin B12 deficiency can also cause the area under the eyes to darken. This problem can be solved by eating foods which are rich in vitamins and minerals, but by consulting a nutritionist.
Iron deficiency causing anemia can also cause dark circles. This problem can also arise due to the over-secretion of a substance known as melanin under the eyes which decides the skin color.
Too much exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays is harmful for the eyes, and is a cause for appearance of dark circles. This happens due to the loss of moisture and deterioration of the skin.

Remedies

Drinking plenty of water is a helpful solution to get rid of dark circles. You can reduce swelling or puffiness by placing tea bags under your eyes for a specific period. Some oils like olive oil and cucumber slices can help to reduce or permanently remove dark circles.
All parents should take care of their child's general health and give them a balanced diet which contains all the essential nutrients in sufficient quantities. There are creams which can prove useful to treat the problem of dark circles by having a moisturizing effect on the skin below the eyes. Rose water which is said to be a natural coolant and a mixture of almond and honey will help to deal with dark circles.
Generally, the getting rid of dark circles permanently takes time and you should be patient and stand by your child till you achieve the desired results.
