Diarrhea After Eating

There are many different causes behind the occurrence of diarrhea after eating. This story provides information regarding the same.
When you have bowel movement immediately after eating, it means that your body is not properly processing the nutrients it requires. It may require some sort of assistance in arresting the diarrhea.
Again in some cases, diarrhea immediately after eating may indicate that your body is rejecting some of the components of food, i.e., some toxin or unhealthy chemicals that your body is not able to process properly. It may also be possible that you might have ingested a lot of natural laxative present in foods such as prunes or fruit juice.
The condition may also be called an irritable bowel syndrome.

Causes

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

This is one of the major causes of this problem. Irritable bowel syndrome is conditioned by the disorder in the colon i.e. the large intestine. Though it is very uncomfortable, it may not lead to any permanent damage. Symptoms may include cramping, diarrhea, bloating, and abdominal pain.

Gluten Allergy

You may also be allergic to gluten which is a protein found in wheat. The gluten causes damage to your intestines, thereby leading to constant diarrhea.

Lactose Intolerance

The condition is ironic because lactose deficiency makes digestion of lactose difficult. Lactose can be found in sugar, milk, and dairy products. People having this disorder will often experience diarrhea and bloating after eating dairy products or lactose containing foods.

Food Poisoning

Another major reason for diarrhea right after eating is food poisoning. It may be caused by eating foods that is contaminated with viruses, bacteria, or toxins. Apart from diarrhea immediately after eating, other symptoms may include nausea, tiredness, stomach cramps, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fever, and vomiting after eating.

Treatment

To treat diarrhea caused after eating, you will have to bring about a change in your diet and lifestyle, and avoid consuming certain foods that can cause gas. Instead, start taking fiber supplements.
You can also try a high-fiber diet which will help relieve the symptoms. If you think that you are intolerant to lactose, talk to your doctor. You may be recommended to take lactose enzyme tablets or drops. Also, avoid foods containing gluten such as wheat, rye, barley, gram flour, semolina, etc.
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration, but be very careful to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and dairy products. Children affected by this problem should be given oral rehydration solution or ORS to prevent dehydration and bloating after eating. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration due to diarrhea.
In all the aforementioned causes, you need to consult your doctor. He or she may prescribe you over-the-counter medicines. Take plenty of rest and follow a healthy lifestyle.
