Dull Pain in Lower Right Abdomen

Dull aching pain in the abdomen can be a symptom of severe medical conditions related to any organ located in the abdomen. Knowing about the underlying causes and their treatment methods will be helpful to you.
Stomach pain is usually caused due to digestive disorders like indigestion, acidity, etc. However, these are not the only causes for the same. As there are many vital organs located inside the abdomen, any disorder or abnormal functioning of these organs leads to abdominal pain.
The abdomen is divided into four quadrants (upper right, upper left, lower right and lower left) for quick understanding and identification of the symptoms and the underlying cause. Also, pain in the abdomen can range from dull to severe, depending on the cause.

Causes

Appendicitis

The appendix is a small tube-like organ located where the small and large intestines meet. It is located on the right side of the abdomen. Inflammation of this organ leads to appendicitis which can be a life-threatening condition. Pain in the lower right abdomen, reddening, and irritation of the appendix are the symptoms of this condition.

Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common health disorders experienced by people all over the world. Lack of a fibrous diet, less intake of water, regular use of certain medications, etc., leads to constipation. Pain in the abdomen, difficulty in passing stools, nausea, and loss of appetite, are the symptoms of this condition.

Menstruation

Menstruation is another significant cause for a dull abdominal pain in females. It occurs due to hormonal changes that take place during the monthly cycle. Although it is a non-serious cause of stomach ache, it is experienced by women every month in a regular menstrual cycle.

Stomach Ulcer

Stomach ulcer is a gastric inflammation that is caused due to alcohol, frequent eating of inflammatory and spicy foods, and also due to certain medications. Pain in the abdomen that comes and goes, vomiting, and nausea, are the prominent symptoms of stomach ulcers.
Aforementioned are the most common causes of abdominal pain. Apart from those mentioned above, there can be several other potential reasons for the same.

Treatment Methods

If a person experiences dull pain, that lasts for more than a day, he / she should consult the doctor immediately. The doctor will undertake physical examination and X-ray to find the potential cause of the pain. Appendicitis needs to be headed to immediately or it can turn life-threatening.
Appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix which is effectively done all over the world. In most of the cases, constipation can be treated by making changes in the diet and lifestyle. Having a nutritious and fibrous diet, drinking adequate amounts of water, regular exercise, etc., helps in treating constipation.
On the other hand, there are several medications like laxatives that can be obtained over-the-counter and help in relieving constipation.
Pain in abdomen and back due to menstruation can be overcome by taking rest or using painkillers. However, doctors advise women to take rest rather than being dependent on medications. Stomach ulcers can also be treated with the help of medications.
It is recommended to take medications only after consulting the doctor. At the same time, if a diet is prescribed to treat any disease, it should be followed regularly.
As mentioned above, if stomach pain is observed along with other symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting, etc., it is wise to consult the doctor right away, rather than relying on painkillers and home remedies.
