The most common cause behind formation of stones in the kidney is reduced intake of water, though other reasons are also associated with it. The back pain arising from this condition is quite different from normal backache. The signs and symptoms of kidney stones and back pain are similar for both men and women.
However the chances of occurrence in men is much higher than in women. It is observed in children more frequently as of late due to unhealthy diet and lack of fluid intake. Among the large number of kidney diseases, stones are the most frequently detected among people of all age group.

What Causes Kidney Stones

The medical terminology for kidney stones is Nephrolithiasis, a condition characterized by formation of small calculi inside the kidney. The stones are actually calcium oxalate crystals, formed by crystallization of urine inside the kidney.
They are more commonly formed due to increased amounts of certain elements like sodium, calcium, oxalate, purine, and protein. Nephrolithiasis could also be a result of certain climatic conditions. Hot and humid weather often causes dehydration. Lack of fluid intake leads to formation of stones inside the kidney.
If detected at the initial stage, this condition can be treated with a thorough kidney cleanse at home, that usually involves lemon water and watermelon flush. Backache is usually treated with painkillers. At home, you can take warm compress with a hot water bag. You can also massage your back with pain relief topical creams for instant relief. However, the pain subsides only when the stones are removed.

Back Pain Caused By Kidney Stones

People suffering from kidney stones experience a peculiar backache:
  • The pain is excruciating and thumping in nature, affecting the lower back mainly.
  • The ache is like a never-ending, dull thud in the mid back.
  • This restricts physical movement that involves stress.
  • The position of the kidneys inside our body is responsible for the pain in the back.
The symptoms of kidney stones are more or less similar to urinary tract infections. Apart from back pain, there are many other associated symptoms. Pain in the abdomen region, accompanied by painful urination, is evident in this condition. Back pain although interconnected with kidney diseases, is not always the confirmatory sign.
Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, and abdominal cramps, are associated with this condition. There's an urge to urinate frequently, experiencing burning sensation while urinating. Women with this problem undergo painful menstruation cycles, accompanied by sharp pain in abdomen and back. If not diagnosed properly, one can also pass bloody and smelly urine.
