Many people might not know they suffer from poor circulation in hands while sleeping if they are unaware of the symptoms of it. It gives a feeling of numbness and tingling sensation in the hands and fingers, which happens because of poor blood circulation in limbs. The affected organ, especially the limbs, turn blue and cold. In the following paragraphs, we will see the causes and remedies of this problem.
Poor circulation means constricted blood flow in the body. Our heart provides oxygen to the entire body through pumping of blood that carries dissolved oxygen. So, practically, it is the blood that is the oxygen giver, but if the heart does not perform its job, the circulatory system functions will fail. That is why poor circulation in hands at night makes you get up often in the night and you suffer from loss of sleep.

Causes and Symptoms

  • Poor Posture:
Posture is something on which we tend to pay less attention, without realizing what effects it can have on the body. More than half of the problems related to pain and numbness are triggered by faulty posture.
  • Faulty Bed Furnishings:
Although a very soft and fluffy mattress can allure you to the bed and give you a luxurious feeling, wait a minute before you dive in and ponder on whether it is good for your back. The spine has a curved S-like structure that is meant to be supported while you rest.
  • Just as it is important to have a good chair because you sit long hours working, the same is applicable to your bed.
  • After this comes the pillow, which is an important aide to your neck while sleeping. Head is the heaviest part of our body that bones have to support in terms of the weight ratio. So, you must select a pillow that does not slump much.
  • Also, it should not be so stiff that the head is not relaxed completely. The pillow should be a little hard, like the ones made of foam or sponge, as opposed to the feather-filled ones, for people who have a tendency to turn to their sides while sleeping.
  • Heart Disease:
In severe conditions it can be a symptom of heart disease.
  • Obesity:
Due to too much high body fat, the nerves might be prone to compression, which leads to cutting of the blood supply to hands. Exercise is the only solution for this. Cutting down on high-cholesterol foods is advised, as their consumption builds up layers in the arteries of the heart, further reducing its diameter and constricting the blood passage.
  • Pinched Nerve:
  • Tingling in hands and feet can also be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, which is a nerve-related problem. It is one sign which is easily mistaken and could also signal Type II diabetes.

Treatment

  • Exercises:
The reason why all the doctors advocate exercises is because it cuts down the fats by burning calories and improves blood circulation in the body. Along with this, the muscles too are put to a good workout.
  • Food:
Although a balanced diet is what everyone should have, it is especially important to have foods that produce heat in the body, like garlic, ginger, etc.
  • Physiotherapy:
Physical training and physiotherapy by trained professional will surely help you get rid of this ailment and will let you have a relaxed and undisturbed sleep in the night.
