Ever been troubled by red blotches on face? Read the following story to know why that happens and what one is to do about it.
Red blotches is a common health condition that afflicts several individuals. These can appear anywhere on the body, though they most often affect the face. While there are several causes that could lead to red blotches on the body, one of the most common causes for why red blotches come about is due to allergies.
In this story, we will talk about the varied reasons for the emergence of red blotches and how to go about treating the same. Continue reading if you've ever faced this problem and have not known what to do about it.

Causes

For many, it'll seem like these blotches make way quite suddenly, without any reason to justify their emergence. But when you study the trend carefully, you'll find that they are linked to certain events - for example, they come about after taking a shower, after exercising or after extreme exposure to the sun.
What are some of the other reasons for why these could come about? Let us study the same in the following section.

Allergies

Allergy is one of the main reasons why these red spots appear suddenly without any apparent reason.
These could come about because a person is allergic to certain things like elements in the air - dust, pollen and mold spores, chemicals in the water, certain clothing material, certain food products or any other surface that comes in contact with the person's skin.
But what are allergies, exactly? When foreign bodies enter our body, our immune system perceives them as being harmful and produces allergens to fight them. Yet, instead of getting rid of these foreign objects, the allergens react negatively with the body and produce allergic reactions with varied symptoms (sneezing, reddening and swelling of skin).
Not all people will suffer from allergies of the same form because (and some, not at all) only certain people's immune systems will perceive these allergens as being harmful. Thus when these allergens attack the skin's tissue, they cause these red spots to appear.

Exposure to Sun

While tanning of the skin surface is a well-known effect of exposure to the sun's rays, that is not all that it could lead to. Overexposure to the harmful UV rays of the sun are known to cause dark spots, age spots and other conditions along with the appearance of red blotches on face.

It is also possible that these spots could be an allergic reaction to the sun's rays.

Indication of Other Conditions

Many times, red blotches are an indication of an underlying condition in the human body. It has been found that it is a common symptom that comes about due to one of many skin disorders.
These could be skin problems like eczema, hives, rosacea or psoriasis (or sometimes even ingrown hair) or could even be an indication of chickenpox, insect bites, scabies and acne. Along with that, several types of skin rashes can also lead to red spots on the body.
It is important to note that rosacea is one of the most common causes of this condition. It's a condition that maximally affects fair skinned individuals and those who have thin skins. It is due to this that the underlying blood vessels are revealed causing redness and red blotches to appear.

Change in Temperature

Sudden and extreme change in temperatures from very hot to very cold or the other way round can cause the skin to react by producing red blotches on the face and other skin surfaces.

Treatment

Even though these red blotches are usually considered harmless and do not cause any discomfort, there are instances when they can cause itching, stinging, swelling and sometimes mild or severe pain. That is why it becomes important to administer some form of treatment for the same. Here are some easy solutions.
  • Avoid overexposure to the sun and do not venture out when the sun's rays are harsh. Always use a good sunscreen and other protective gear to prevent these spots.
  • Use aloe vera gel or other natural herbal remedies like tea tree extract and buttermilk to cleanse and soothe the inflamed skin.
  • Take some water (warm) and mix oatmeal powder in it to make a paste. Now apply on the skin surface that is affected with the red blotches. It will soothe the skin and help the swelling subside.
  • Using a cold compress with the help of a towel or an ice pack on the red blotches will help to provide instant relief.
  • You can also make a solution of milk and cold water in a 1:1 ratio and use a compress of the same to cool the inflamed area and bring about relief.
  • Using a moisturizer to hydrate the skin also helps as well.
  • Gently rubbing natural oils like olive oil, cod liver oil, vitamin E oil or baby oil are known to sooth the area and lead to relief.
  • Mix 1-2 tsp of turmeric powder in warm water and take a mixture of the same 2 times a day till the symptoms subside. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric powder will help cure the red blotches.
Red blotches on face or any other body part are a common phenomenon, and while they are generally considered harmless, they can sometimes be an indication of a serious underlying disease and thus diagnosing and treating the problem becomes important.
