Red Rash on Stomach

A red rash on stomach may be caused due to external factors like environmental pollutants and may be accompanied with severe itching. However, it can also be a result of an underlying condition of the stomach or any part of the body. Here is a list of the different causes and effective home remedies.
A red rash is a change of color and skin texture, and its occurrence on stomach and skin is pretty common. Rashes affect the skin in a harmful way. They make the affected part of the skin dry, red, itchy, bumpy, cracked or blistered.
This condition is often triggered due to fungal infection or by consuming a food item that didn't suit the digestive system. Some doctors have also observed cases where the rash appeared after taking a hot bath in a jacuzzi; in such instances, unclean water is the main culprit.

Causes

As mentioned before, a rash can make a person very uncomfortable and if not treated right away, it may lead to a skin infection. However, before we jump on the treatment part, how about knowing some causes which lead to it.
Measles
A highly contagious disease which affects the respiratory system of the body. Pretty common in babies and if not taken proper care, serious complications can arise. These complications often result in a red rash on stomach and different parts of the body.
Eczema
It is a chronic condition caused by itching, redness and swelling of the skin. This condition occurs when the skin appears to be more sensitive to certain substances than its normal sensitivity. A rash is often considered a symptom of eczema occurring on various parts of the body.
Allergic Contact Dermatitis
A delayed skin reaction which starts when skin comes in contact with allergen which leaves a red rash on the abdomen and chest. Most common allergens are nickel, different jewelry and rubber chemicals found in gloves and garments. This reaction can occur if skin comes in contact with certain types of cosmetics, soaps and dyes.
Drug Eruption
A drug eruption is a negative or side effect of a medication. Drug eruption or drug rash as it is popularly known can appear in many forms, and excessive use of any medication can be held responsible for rashes occurring all over the body.
Folliculitis
It is a skin condition caused when hair follicles in a limited area of the body are removed. Waxing and shaving the skin usually triggers this medical condition, and it occurs in the form of a burning rash on the affected area.
Psoriasis
It is a non-contagious skin condition which affects around 5% of the people in the United States. People with psoriasis usually suffer from red rashes on legs and skin. In most cases, it is hereditary but doctors say that psoriasis may happen due to emotional stress and due to the negative effect of certain types of medications.
Scabies
Scabies is a plague of the skin caused by a tiny mite called sarcoptes. It is a highly contagious disease and spreads rapidly in crowded areas. Skin becomes very itchy, red and immediate consultation from the doctor is recommended in this case.
Insect Bites or Bee Stings
Bites from insects are common and most of us have been bitten by ants, mosquitoes, flies, spiders and bugs. Their bites surely cause a little pain but are not responsible for an allergic reaction.
However, some arthropods like bees, hornets, wasps and yellow jackets inject toxins with their bite causing an allergic reaction on the skin and it gradually develops in a rash.

Home Remedies

People with sensitive skin can develop a rash very easily and the rash can easily spread to the various parts of the body and could lead to an infection. For people who are not big-believers of modern medicine can certainly try the following home remedies.
  • Avoid scratching the rash, it is difficult to control the urge but scratching it will only worsen the condition. It might also lead to an infection, which would require another visit to the doctor's clinic and many antibiotics.
  • Treat the affected area with running cold water to ease the itchiness. Apply cold yogurt to soothe the infected area. People can also relax their body in a bathtub of cold water and add oatmeal or baking soda in the water to minimize the itching.
  • Consult a physician before taking or applying any medication on the affected area.
  • The rash can also be treated with Aloe Vera gel or the pulp of Aloe Vera plant to cool down the burning sensation.
A rash is usually a symptom of an underlying condition which leads to skin discoloration and itching. Most instances can be treated with medication, however, if the rash has lasted more than 2 days, the situation should be reported to a skin specialist.
