Scar Tissue Removal

Aarti R
After some serious injury or a surgery, the wound heals subsequently. The only thing that is left behind is a scar. Many times, scars, depending upon their location and appearance, make us lose our confidence. However, the good news is that, those ugly looking scars can be removed with several treatment options and help you regain your confidence.
Scar tissue is nothing but a tissue under the skin, that is responsible for the formation of a scar. Tissues are fibers under our skin. After a serious injury or surgery, or even after the outburst of acne, these fibers get replaced by dead skin cells. New cells do not form in the place of the scar. This is the reason for the unwanted marks or scars that are visible on the skin, which, many times, are embarrassing.

Scar Tissue Healing

When the skin is damaged due to some reason, our body has the power to naturally heal the wound. In the process of healing, the healthy skin tissues are recreated. However, most of the time, the recreated tissues do not function as the original ones, and a protective barrier is formed, which is known as a scar.
Also, in the healing process, there are three stages viz., acute inflammation, repairing, and remodeling. The scar is painful in the inflammatory stage. Many times, even after the remodeling process, the pain can persist. This pain is usually experienced during some movement of that particular part of the body.

Treatment Options

The treatment for the removal of a scar tissue depends upon the cause of scarred tissue, extent of scarring, and the organ of the body that has developed the scar. There are many non-surgical treatment options that can heal a scar. However, in some cases, doctors do recommend a surgery.

Needling

In the process of needling, the scar tissue is removed using needles. The affected area is continuously needled, so as to promote the formation of collagen. However, this procedure of needling must be done only under medical supervision.

Dermabrasion

The types of scars treated under this method, are those caused by acne and chickenpox. Dermabrasion is also done to treat wrinkles on the skin. This method is very similar to the chemical peels. In this procedure, collagen is formed in the place of abrasion.
This collagen is, however, a bit harder than the original skin tissue. After the treatment, the skin that is treated can be easily distinguished from the skin that is untreated. The former appears to be shinier and lighter than the latter.

Laser Skin Surgery

Laser skin surgery is one of the methods of treatment that involves use of laser for removing the scar tissue. There are several types of cosmetic laser surgeries, however, any of these surgeries must be done with the doctor's approval.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is also a method of treatment. Although, it is effective, there are many long-term side-effects involved in this treatment.
These were some of the methods for the removal of the scar tissue. It is strongly recommended to consult a doctor before you go for any of these treatments.
