Hormonal imbalance can give rise to several signs and symptoms. Presented here is a list of symptoms observed in women and men.
Hormone imbalance, as the name suggests, is a condition that develops when the balance between the steroid hormones in the body is disturbed due to over production or under production of these hormones. It is essential to identify the signs of hormonal imbalance at an early stage, in order to get it treated immediately. There are several factors that lead to hormone imbalance in men and women.
Menopause (in females) and andropause (in males), and improper functioning of the hormone producing glands, etc., are the significant causes of hormonal imbalance.
However, these days other factors like erratic lifestyle, changes in diet and eating habits, stress, exposure to pollutants, use of drugs, steroids, birth control pills, etc., can also lead to imbalance in hormones. These days, hormone imbalance is commonly found in younger females and teenage girls, which is an alarming thing.

Apart from these, the symptoms of hormonal imbalance in females also include thyroid gland malfunction, food cravings, and dry skin. This can lead to enlarged thyroid gland and changes in behavior and physique.
Acne is also one of the most common disorders experienced by teenage girls and young women due to imbalance of hormones. Women should remember that if any of the aforementioned symptoms are observed due to any unknown reason, they should undergo tests to check hormonal imbalance.
There are several medications and therapies used to treat hormone imbalance symptoms. Medications like hormone blockers and hormone precursors are used in case of increased and decreased function of hormones, respectively. Hormone blockers curb the function of the hormones when their level rises.
On the other hand, the hormone precursors stimulate the function of hormones in case the imbalance is caused due to low levels of hormones. Secondly, the Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is another effective method of treating hormonal imbalance in men and women.
Apart from that, younger women specially need to follow preventive measures to avoid hormonal imbalance. They should have a balanced diet and limit the intake of processed foods. On the other hand, it is essential to keep away from pollutants, drugs, birth control pills, etc. Lastly, one of the most important factor is to try to reduce stress, as it is one of the major causes of many health hazards.
As a concluding note, one should note that long-term hormonal imbalance can be hazardous to health, and hence, it is advisable to get the condition treated immediately. Take care!
