Muscle Twitching and Vitamin Deficiency

Most of the time, the cause behind this muscle activity is a cramped nerve, certain medications, anxiety and stress, etc. It is really tough for any individual to draw a conclusion about vitamin deficiency and twitching. Most of the time, twitching is voluntary and does not last for a long time.
It will happen rarely and if you have this problem once in a month or two, there is no need to worry or panic. Do not jump to conclusions about lack of vitamins being the only cause of it. Only in case of twitching, that is frequent and repeated in intervals, it needs to be diagnosed.
It is observed that low vitamin D levels causes twitching and electrical impulses. Twitching is the action of the muscles randomly relaxing and contracting. The impulses sent by the brain or the spinal cord, are often triggered to sending random signals to muscles, which causes them to twitch. This can be related to dietary deficiencies and mainly, vitamin D.
This vitamin is responsible for the effective signaling of the motor nerve fibers, as it regulates the cell processes in the tissues and the CNS, that is central nervous system. In case of vitamin deficiency, the cellular process and the motor nerve fibers will get affected, and cause muscle twitching, which may also be sometimes accompanied by tingling, numbness and cramps.
Certain other vitamins like vitamin E, B1, B12, B6, niacin are essential for the healthy functioning of nerves. In short, the B group of vitamins are essential for relaxing and calming of the nerves after stress, that reduces the trembling of the nerves. A deficiency of these vitamins can directly or indirectly hamper the relaxing of the nerves and muscles.
Apart from vitamin D and the B group of vitamins, a mineral deficiency too can cause tingling, cramps and twitching. It is observed that minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium are important for neuromuscular function and muscle control. A deficiency in these minerals can trigger, cramps, trembling and twitching.
Low calcium and magnesium can lead to involuntary muscle contractions and twitching. When considering calcium as the cause for twitching, it is also evident that, vitamin D deficiency can lead to low absorption of calcium, as this vitamin helps in absorbing calcium in the body. Magnesium deficiency can lead to muscle tremors and twitching, it is also an important mineral for aiding calcium and potassium absorption.
It is thus evident that low vitamin levels can cause muscle twitching. As these are essentials for proper nerve functioning. Insufficient vitamins and muscle twitching are related by cause and effect. So get plenty of vitamins and minerals primarily through the diet, and take supplements only after medical advise. As we know the pyramid of good health, has diet and exercise, that make the foundation. If these are taken care of, all that is interlinked will also get balanced.
