Stretch Marks

Although stretch marks are commonly associated with pregnancy, they can also be the result of several other factors. They are nothing but the outcome of stretching of the skin beyond its elastic limit within a short period of time. It is one of the common skin conditions that can affect both men and women.
Stretch marks are characterized by the appearance of parallel red or white streaks through the skin. It generally occurs when the deeper skin layers tear due to a sudden change in the body physique such as sudden weight gain, muscle building, or pregnancy. This causes the skin to tear and results in scars and stretch marks.
The outer layer of the skin remains intact while the torn dermis layer creates unsightly marks as the collagen fibers are stretched out of shape. These stretch marks are generally seen in the regions that include the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, and breasts. Now, that you know what are stretch marks and how they occur, we can see how to get rid of them.

Using Vitamin E Oil to Reduce Stretch Marks

Vitamin E oil can be used to prevent the occurrence of stretch marks as well as to get rid of the existing ones. It is believed to possess the ability to promote elasticity of the skin. As the skin becomes more elastic, it can be stretched easily, and this minimizes the tearing of tissues, thus preventing the formation of stretch marks.
Vitamin E oil can be used topically or orally, after consulting a doctor. Massage the oil on the skin areas that are prone to develop stretch marks regularly. The oil enhances the elasticity of the skin in those areas and thus helps in preventing stretch marks.
Although vitamin E oil can prevent stretch marks from developing, one should not rely solely on its use. You need to complement it with a well-balanced diet and a regular exercise program, that helps in controlling weight gain.
Regular vitamin E oil use can help lighten existing stretch marks, however, it has a lesser effect on the old ones as compared to the more recent ones. This is because the damage to the tissue has already occurred and vitamin E cannot make the stretch marks disappear completely. However, regular use of the oil can reduce them to a considerable extent.
Apply it to the stretch marks and massage gently. It softens the area where it is applied regularly and then lightens, the area within a few weeks. Mixing it with other ingredients such as cocoa butter, olive oil, sweet almond oil, etc., can boost its healing properties, and can be highly effective in treating stretch marks.
Vitamin E oil is safe for use. However, some people may experience certain allergic reactions. Apply a small amount of the oil on the skin, and wait for a couple of hours to test for any negative reaction. If you observe any adverse reaction, avoid using it, but if not, go ahead and make good use of vitamin E oil to reduce stretch marks.
