It is natural to worry about why you get bruised so easily. No one likes to have a body full of those red, green, blue, or purple scars all over. It is normal to bruise when you have a fall, or bump hard into furniture or other such heavy objects. Some people even get bruised by excessive exercising. However, there are certain causes for the appearance of such marks on your body without apparent reason.

Causes

When the capillaries under your skin break, blood leaks out, and shows in the form of painful bruises of different colors. In some cases, people develop deeper bruises that are not visible on the surface of the skin, but cause swelling and pain. In such a case, you ought to consult a doctor immediately.
Following are some of the causes of bruising for no apparent reason:
  • Blood Disorders: It is possible that you are affected by blood disorders such as hemophilia that cause the blood to leak easily and result in bruises. A low-platelet count due to conditions such as leukemia may also cause you to bruise easily on the legs and other parts of the body.
  • Vitamin Deficiency: A deficiency of vitamin K in the body, that is responsible for blood clotting, may be a reason for this condition. Vitamin C deficiency is also the cause for bruising easily.
  • Medication: The intake of certain types of medicines is also one of the causes of easy bruising. If you have been prescribed some kind of anti-inflammatory medicine to treat a particular condition, bruising may be a side effect of such medicines. A blood-thinning medicine will also cause this problem.
  • Overactivity: Working out too much, being on the run all day, or walking for long hours for different reasons may cause easy bruising.
  • Excess Intake of Natural Supplements: Those of you who are in the habit of consuming natural supplements such as fish oil supplements, ginkgo biloba extracts, ginger and garlic, etc., are likely to cause unexplained bruising.
  • Aging: Finally, as you grow older, it is natural that your capillaries become weak, and so does your skin. As such, minor bumps will also lead to easy bruising.
Bruising is usually accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue. You may feel tired as you lose a little blood, every time you get bruised. As such, the experience of pain and swelling is heightened by the weakness that is accompanied by bruises.

Treatment

This phenomenon of easy bruising can be controlled in simple manners. There are some ways that tell you how to get rid of the bruises. One of the most common methods is the use of an ice pack immediately after you get injured.
Placing an ice pack on the affected area for about 15-20 minutes will help control the leakage of the blood, and will also reduce the swelling and pain that is associated with bruising.
If vitamin deficiency is the reason (that can be discovered only after consulting a doctor and undergoing certain tests), then your doctor will provide you with vitamin supplements and other such medication to control the problem.
Similar is the case if you suffer from a disorder of the blood. In fact, increasing your vitamin intake will also help control bruising as a cause of aging.
Till you are able to control this event of easy bruising, it is essential that you know how to reduce bruising and prevent it altogether. Try to avoid minor bumps, those tight hugs, and excess physical activity for a while. When you undergo treatment and see that the bruising process has reduced, you can go ahead and do all that you wanted to. Do not ignore the fact that you bruise so easily because over time it can get hazardous and pose health risks.
