Wisdom Teeth Pain Symptoms

Pain in the wisdom teeth can be very annoying and traumatic. To know the wisdom teeth pain symptoms, read the story.
Wisdom teeth are the third molars, which are located after all the teeth in our mouth. They are the last set of teeth that come when we are in the age of 17 to 24 years, and are hence called wisdom teeth. These teeth cause no pain if they come properly.

They cause issues if they are trapped underneath the gums or if they come all crooked. As they are placed at the very end, there are chances that you may not be able to clean them properly. This can lead to several dental health issues, which cause pain. This story throws light on some of the wisdom teeth pain symptoms.

Pain While Eating

If you find that you cannot chew food properly or if there is an excruciating pain in your wisdom teeth while chewing, it is an indication that you are suffering from this problem. This could also happen in case of your wisdom teeth swelling. It also means that you may have to remove the wisdom tooth. However, the decision of tooth extraction will be your dentist's based on how bad the tooth is.

Jaw Stiffness

When your mouth pains when you try to open it or when you feel a certain stiffness in the jaw near your wisdom teeth, it signifies several things. Your impacted wisdom teeth may have rotted, your teeth must have been trapped under the gums or there must be something stuck in your teeth, all of these can cause you a lot of pain. Such jaw pain should be reported to the dentist.

Tingling in Cheeks

Tingling in your cheeks or cheeks too tender to touch, are also some symptoms. I recommend that you go to your dentist to get the problem diagnosed in time. He/she may decide getting wisdom teeth out based on this diagnoses.
Once your dentist decides that you need to remove the impacted wisdom teeth, you will have to go ahead with the procedure. That done, you will still experience some more pain in the area where the teeth has been pulled from. There may be excruciating pain and swelling in the gums.
If the dentist finds it difficult to remove your wisdom teeth, he/she may cut open the gum tissues and then stitch them back. This can be painful too. The dentist may prescribe some medication for pain relief.
However, you will need to be careful about a lot of things. You will need to ensure that you do not bite the place or your tongue. You will also need to ensure that you do not chew your food from that side of your mouth where you had the procedure done.
It is better to be on a liquid diet or on semi solid diet for a couple of days after the surgery. Applying an ice pack on the painful area is a good solution. Sleep with your head on a couple of pillows so that you do not bleed; if you lie flat, you will not stop bleeding. Do not smoke at least for 24 hours after removal, as the sucking motion can cause further pain. Do not touch the area with your tongue or your finger. This will delay the recovery time. Ensure that you do not brush that area too hard. However, it is imperative that the area is completely clean.
Not touching the area frequently and cleaning the area thoroughly are needed to avoid infection. Consult your dental hygienist in case you have pain for more than two days. It is equally important to take care of the area in case the wisdom teeth are removed.
